Haru No Katami by Chitose Hajime

One of my personal favourites. This ED is jussstttt so perfect to be the ED of Bake Neko (one of the 3 spooky stories) in the anime Ayakashi Japanese Horror, befitting this tragic story. Every time I listen to this song, I’m so immersed in her voice. The way she sings is just totally special.

On a side note, out of the 3 stories, Bake Neko is very unique in itself, a different kind of animation is used which gives it a more colourful  and rich background.  I’m not good at describing the animation but the preview of it can be seen in this ED.

p.s. Haru No Katami appears at the end of each Ayakashi episode, but it suits Bake Neko ending best.

Darker than Black OST – Kuro no Keiyakusha Gekiban

Waiting…waiting…This is one of those rare moments that I have ever waited for an animation soundtrack.  The song that strikes me is the haunting tune at the end of episode 2, supposedly sung by Mai Yamane, as whispered  in the anime community.

Darker than Black Gekiban finally debuted on the 25 Jul 06, done by the famous Yoko Kanno, who apparently did many other famous anime soundtracks  such as Cowboy Bebob, and Ghost in the Shell. I feel like a total noob for not having hear about her before!

Nodame Cantabile Selection CD Book Vol 2

The closest thing to a Nodame Cd that I can find is this….

that comes with a cute pictorial book.

The pictures in here are kawaii…..

The listed masterpieces include:

  1. Berlioz: “Le Carnaval Romain” Ouverture
  6. Dukas : L’apprenti sorcier
  7. Mozart : Sonate fur Klavier Nr 8. a-moll, KV 310 (300d) – II

Well,  I guess this only make up a few of the many orchestra pieces mentioned in the manga.  But apparantly , the actual cd compilation  for this series is very popular.  I guess this CD can be another attractive tool for teachers to introduce classical music to the students in a fun way….I’m still trying out the cd…is not like the usual classical pieces I’ve listened too…these pieces are not often heard.

Oh..how I wish my local stores would import more such Japanese cds over here as well.. ….

Honey and Clover (ハチミツとクローバー Hachimitsu to Kurōba)

Created by Chikia Umino –  the title came about as the mangaka is inspired by these 2 albums – Hachimiitsu by Spitz and Clover by Suga Shikao.

Forget about a sweet mix of cocotion…2 spoons of honey and 2 spoons of clover and maybe you’ll end up getting something that is bittersweet … The same can be said of this series…a bittersweet realistic tale of the lives of these best buddies –  Takemoto, Mayama, Morita, Yamada, Hagu – who study in the same art university, live together, fall in love and their search for their true selves – what they want for themselves in the future.  It also offers a glimpse of life views through their eyes.

THE END by Mika Nakashima

What happens if you lunch at a shopping centre?

What WIll Happen if A Shopaholic lunches there?

Well…. you’ll end up buying something – big or small.  Shopaholics should definitely avoid such lunches at all cost if you have a big hole somewhere from the latest sale!

Today’s Venue : Great World Shopping Centre

Damage Location : That CD Shop              Damage Done : S$19.90

Type of Damage : The End by Mika Nakashima

This is a compilation album of songs sung by Mika Nakashima as punk queen NANA in the movies NANA & NANA 2 .  It consists of the opening songs “ Glamourous Sky”, “Eyes for the Moon” & “Hitoiro”.  Interesting facts are :  the lyrics for these 3 songs are written by the mangaka, Ai Yazawa, herself!

I’ve bought Glamourous Sky few months back in Aug 06.

Nodame Cantabile

“Nodame Nodame Nodame…”

Weird..this has been happening to me for the last few days…

Have been chanting these words out of nowhere..Am i going mad?

I guess it’s the subconscious mind that takes control, before I know it, I have strolled into Kinokuniya one afternoon and found myself buying the on-going series Nodame Cantabile by Tomoko Ninomiya!

Well, it’s not really an impulsive buy, I’ve been reading it and it kind of appeals to me with its various mention of different Classical pieces, and its musical terms.  As a piano student once myself, I can really relate to it.  The struggles that one have to go through for being ‘almost perfect’ for a piece, and there are other students who can’t read notes or tone-deaf and can’t sing accurately..

The Story :  Shinichi Chiaki is an arrogant &  talented top student (in piano & violin)  in the music university, but he dreams of being a conductor one day.  With a fear of flying, he was grounded in Japan and he wonders whether he can reach his dreams one day. After a fight with his teacher, he was being ‘demoted’ to a reject class and became Nodame’s classmate!

Nodame or Megumi Noda is a prodigy who can play a whole masterpiece from memory just be listening to it once.  Being a genius, & like all genius, she don’t care about anything else but Music and music, and more music!! (or maybe food?!)  A meeting between the two of them meeting is like a meeting of 2 extreme personalities – one is a neat freak, the other is a dirty slob. Will this lead to disasters? Or more like a Match made in heaven?   Continue reading

Deathnote The Movie デスノート

Deathnote デスノート-

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The Jap show of this year!

The Experience

Deathnote fanatics will identify with these actions :
1) Read the manga
2) Collect the Deathnote Collectables
3) Catch the previews of Deathnote Movie
4) Follow by Deathnote anime

Whats the craze for this? Outsiders cannot never understand.
First they can’t get this correct : L, Kira, Light? who is who??
I thought that is really funny..especially when I tried to explain to people what is the show about.
The local channels have advertised it, or the trailer has presented it as a Horror genre show, which is totally untrue!

Anyway, finally get to see this show in a neighbourhood cinema. It is a full house on a weekday, filled with school kids – mostly secondary students, college students, university students. Totally impressed, isn’t now the exam period? Don’t they need to study? Maybe is the dark side of the show that totally draws us in.

The Movie

The beginning was kind of slow..the pace only starts to pick up when L and the FBI starts to come in to find Raito. For the fans, its like watching what you have read in action – the potato chips, the clues in the letter, the train scene. We can even catch a preview of Misa Misa in the show..or maybe the beginning of Misa? There was some slight deviation in the show from the manga, but it did not derail too much from the nature of the manga, if not i guess i’ll be the one making the most noise in the scene.

L is totally depicted as what he was – squatting on the chair, sloppy, black eye rings, playing with cubes of sugar… OK, i think i almost cringe when there’s this part where he has donuts, pastries on a stick… like lollipop style..Diabetes alert!
